Exact identity and naming boundary
Volvo D11 is Volvo's 11-litre heavy-duty engine family for selected weight-sensitive, regional and vocational uses. It is not a D13 rating.
Production and emissions eras
Match D11 generation, emissions year and market availability to the individual truck.
Published ratings and claims
Use official D11 product data for the relevant year; avoid carrying a current range backwards. Published ranges and performance statements are manufacturer data, not SemiTrucks.ca test findings; the installed calibration must be verified.
Applications and truck relationships
D11 may appear in selected VNR and other Volvo configurations depending on year and application.
Identify the engine in one truck
Verify serial, data plate, ECM rating, emissions label and factory build record.
Transmission and vehicle integration
Confirm I-Shift model, PTO/application configuration, cooling and axle ratio.
Canadian climate and duty-cycle questions
Balance mass/payload goals with grade, stop frequency, winter service, idle/PTO demand and parts coverage.
Rebuild, remanufacture and swap limits
A replacement long block, remanufactured engine, ECM change or later swap can separate the current engine from the truck's original build. Reconcile the engine serial, ECM identity, invoices, certification labels and physical installation; do not infer factory fitment from appearance.
Reviewed and verification limit
Reviewed September 4, 2026. Ratings, availability and service information change by year, market and calibration. Confirm the individual engine with the manufacturer or qualified service source.
Verify the individual truck
Build information, component tags, service records, diagnostics and a qualified inspection take priority over general family-level guidance.
