Kenworth T880 Generations & Model History

Kenworth launched the T880 vocational platform in 2013. The manufacturer does not present a simple replacement-generation boundary, so this page uses a launch architecture plus later model-year updates rather than inventing a numbered generation.

Introduced March 2013; full production followed

T880 launch architecture

The T880 introduced Kenworth's stamped-aluminum cab to vocational applications with application-specific hood, axle, frame, suspension and body-equipment choices.

How to identify

  • T880 vocational hood and cab family
  • Application-specific axle and body packaging
  • Factory build information is especially important

Verify on the truck

  • Front and rear axle ratings
  • Frame, suspension and wheelbase
  • Cooling, PTO and body installation

Model-year updates; not a claimed new generation

Later production updates

Later T880 production can include updated digital instrumentation, powertrain, safety and vocational options. These are model-year or ordered-equipment differences, not a universal generation break.

How to identify

  • 15-inch digital display on applicable later trucks
  • Updated component and safety options
  • Confirm by build sheet and component labels

Verify on the truck

  • Installed display/safety equipment
  • Engine, transmission and calibration
  • Any post-factory vocational modifications

Sources & technical references

Primary manufacturer and government sources support the broad history and verification context. Specifications still need to be confirmed for the individual truck.
