114SD is part of Freightliner’s vocational/severe-duty range. Original SD and Plus equipment belong to separate references.

The list covers the chronology currently represented here. Exact first/final model years and build applicability remain provisional; the last listed year is not a verified production endpoint.

MY2011 NHTSA campaign checkpoint Verified

114SD · MY2011 regulator campaign checkpoint

This regulator result is retained as a bounded model-year checkpoint. It is not converted into a production start, endpoint, continuous model-year run or original-SD/Plus assignment. It does not prove the first model year or resolve the March 2010 bulletin anomaly.

NHTSA’s vehicle-specific query explicitly returns Freightliner 114SD for MY2011. Campaign membership is narrower than whole-family production evidence. The factory launch chronology remains independently controlled.

January–March 2011 introduction sequence Verified

Original 114SD

A January 19 contemporary report identifies the displayed 114SD SFA mixer chassis as pre-production; the March 22 Freightliner release announces the broader SD family and planned production. These events narrow the launch sequence without proving a first model year or explaining the service bulletin’s March 2010 applicability language.

July 30, 2012 component change Verified

Original 114SD · cooling-system production change

The component change remains verified and the earlier applicability phrase remains unresolved. The added NHTSA issue-index metadata is a scope control, not a pre-launch build, first-model-year or production-range record.

Freightliner bulletin 20-76 controls the July 30, 2012 component-installation change. NHTSA’s issue index separately associates the communication with 108SD and 114SD MY2014 while stating that the communication lists no years. That metadata confirms the index cannot validate the bulletin’s unexplained March 2010 wording.

Equipment / conditionCertain vehicles equipped with IMMI-brand L9 seat-belt buckles · after the release button is pressed, the latch plate can remain partly engaged and make the belt difficult to unlatch
Compliance / consequenceThe response says the condition fails FMVSS No. 209. Hindered emergency egress can increase injury risk.
Manufacturer remedyDTNA dealers were to inspect the buckle and replace it as necessary, free of charge; the response says the recall began May 22, 2014.
Original / expansion boundaryNHTSA identifies FL-661 as an expansion of 13V-604 / FL-654. The expansion is not merged into the original population or silently treated as a revision of each original row.
Response roster boundaryEight in-scope Freightliner rows are retained: 108SD, 122SD, Argosy, Cascadia, Columbia, Coronado and M2 as MY2014, plus 114SD as MY2015. Two Western Star rows remain outside these dossiers.
Manufacturing-window boundaryThe summary gives August 5–November 15, 2013 for the affected campaign population. It is not allocated to an individual family or row and is not a complete production range.
Population boundary938 vehicles across the complete 10-row expansion response. The figure is not allocated by family or model year and is not a production count.
Model-year boundaryThe exact API row says MY2015 while the expansion summary describes model year 2014 vehicles. Both fields are preserved as regulator taxonomy; the row is not used to infer a MY2015 production boundary.
Evidence limitCampaign applicability establishes neither universal L9-buckle fitment, a family production quantity, exact first/final model year, last build, generation assignment, derivative equivalence nor successor relationship.

07 / TRANSPORT & TRAILER RESEARCH

Match the trailer to the whole truck.

Construction, utility, municipal and specialized body installations require body-builder evidence.

Pulling a trailer

Confirm build-specific combination, axle, tyre and coupling ratings, kingpin and service connections, clearance and actual axle weights. GVW is the loaded truck; GCW is the loaded combination. Neither is trailer payload.

Moving the tractor as cargo

Give the carrier measured length, exterior and mirror widths, height, ground clearance and transport weight. Assess deck access, breakover, loaded height and securement together.

Year boundaries still under research

  • First and final model years, exact factory build cut-offs and regional overlap still need dated model-specific evidence.
  • Reconcile bulletin 20-76’s March 2010 applicability wording with the January/March 2011 launch sequence. NHTSA’s communication index associates the bulletin with MY2014 108SD/114SD products but expressly says no years are listed; obtain revision history and VIN/build evidence before inferring any earlier complete-truck chronology.
How to read the evidence

Verified: primary evidence for the stated claim. Corroborated: independent supporting sources. Provisional: useful evidence needing confirmation. Unresolved: conflicting or insufficient evidence. A verified service document or announcement does not verify a production range.

Reference-specific values retain their edition. Build-specific values require a VIN or order record; transport dimensions may require physical measurement. Research intervals locate references, not continuous model-year availability. Reviewed 2026-10-01.

Reference-specific evidence needed

  • Add dated pre-Plus 114SD editions and exact platform transitions.
  • Complete cab-specific front views and remaining B–G dimensions; confirm tractor-specific bumper / frame combinations.
  • Obtain build-specific overall length, exterior and mirror widths, overall height, fifth-wheel height and actual weights.
