STERLING FAMILY REFERENCE

Sterling L8500

The L8500 spans documented 111- and 113-inch BBC identities. Late terminology can place a 111-inch configuration in Set-Forward context and a 113-inch configuration in Set-Back context; neither label describes every L8500.

YEARS & TECHNICAL ERAS

Follow the dated evidence

Corporate production dates, model years and individual factory-code availability are not interchangeable.

VERIFIED

Two BBC identities

Factory material preserves 8511 and 8513 as distinct BBC configurations rather than interchangeable badges.

VERIFIED

HX technical era

Chassis development changed technical content while the family and four-digit identities remained the better canonical structure.

CORROBORATED

Configuration-aware axle position

Use Set-Forward or Set-Back only with the BBC, year and configuration that supports the term. Auction evidence verifies MY2010 L8500 trucks, not every option for that year.

111 and 113 inches are separate references

The L/LT8511 and L/LT8513 must retain their own BBC identity. Do not collapse them into one precision geometry or call the entire family Set-Forward.

Powertrain scope

Contemporary late reporting places medium-heavy engine families in particular configurations. A documented Cummins or MBE example demonstrates that vehicle or source scope, not universal family availability.

Using real vehicles as evidence

VIN and auction records help confirm late existence and surviving combinations. They do not close the exact first or last model year of each subcode.

OWNER / BUYER CHECK

Identify the individual truck

  1. Read the complete 8511 or 8513 code before assigning BBC.
  2. Record axle position as a separate field.
  3. Confirm whether late visible Set-Forward styling is present.
  4. Use the VIN-linked build and labels for engine, transmission and ratings.
A–H DIMENSION GUIDEAMBER

Precision graphic intentionally withheld

Sourced BBC or wheelbase figures may be useful, but they do not complete an A–H reference. No missing width, height, overhang, frame or fifth-wheel geometry is inferred from artwork or an adjacent Sterling family.
