STERLING FAMILY REFERENCE

Sterling L9500

Sterling's L9500 is a broad heavy-duty family with 101-, 111-, 113- and 122-inch BBC codes, truck and tractor roles, and both Set-Forward and Set-Back late configurations.

YEARS & TECHNICAL ERAS

Follow the dated evidence

Corporate production dates, model years and individual factory-code availability are not interchangeable.

CORROBORATED

Direct Ford predecessor continuity

Ford HN80 bill-of-material records and Sterling-market transition vehicles show continuity while VIN and titling details still require vehicle-level checking.

VERIFIED

Early factory configuration structure

Factory data separates four BBC codes and L/LT rear-axle configurations. These belong on one family reference rather than eight thin pages.

VERIFIED

HN80 to HX

The HX chassis replaced earlier engineering beneath a continuing cab/family identity.

VERIFIED

Visible Set-Forward redesign and late Set-Back range

The 101/111 Set-Forward treatment and 113/122 Set-Back context must remain configuration-aware. VIN-backed MY2010 evidence coexists with the March 2009 calendar-production end.

Four codes, one durable family reference

The 9501, 9511, 9513 and 9522 identities encode meaningful BBC/configuration differences. They are structured sections and aliases here, not separate low-depth canonicals.

Heavy vocational and tractor roles

L9500 trucks appear in dump, plow, tanker, municipal and other vocational work, while appropriate configurations also served tractor duty. The badge alone does not establish fifth-wheel equipment, axle ratings or trailer suitability.

Powertrain discipline

Series 60, MBE4000, Caterpillar, Cummins and late DD13/DD15 evidence spans different years and configurations. Keep every engine or transmission statement tied to its source period and axle-position/BBC context.

Relationship to the LC

The LC is L-Line-derived and connected to L9500 architecture, but its factory-recognized car-hauler identity and packaging justify a dedicated reference page.

OWNER / BUYER CHECK

Identify the individual truck

  1. Capture the full four-digit code, not only L9500.
  2. Confirm 101/111/113/122-inch BBC from code and build evidence.
  3. Separate Set-Forward/Set-Back, single/tandem rear axle and truck/tractor use.
  4. Use visible 2007 redesign cues only for a dated late configuration.

Precision graphic intentionally withheld

Sourced BBC or wheelbase figures may be useful, but they do not complete an A–H reference. No missing width, height, overhang, frame or fifth-wheel geometry is inferred from artwork or an adjacent Sterling family.
