2020 258U reference · legacy

Hino 258.

The Hino 258 is a legacy conventional work-truck family. The Canadian 2020 high-power 258U sheet provides a precise reference for a low-profile chassis; it should not be applied to every 258 or 258LP advertisement.

Confirm the suffix and engine rating

Request a photograph of the vehicle and engine identification labels. A high-power 258U has a specific published engine and transmission pairing; other years and versions need their own reference. Check the installed components against the original record, especially if an engine or transmission has been replaced.

Loading height is an equipment decision

For a delivery or recovery body, record deck height under load, ramp arrangement and available frame space. The body builder must check the installation, axle loading and clearances. Tire size and suspension changes can alter the working height, so a low-profile badge does not prove suitability for a particular load.

Read the service history in context

Ask how much time the truck spent idling, loading or operating equipment. Review aftertreatment repairs, maintenance invoices and hydraulic-system records separately. Inspect body mounts and the rear frame closely when the truck has carried a concentrated or moving load.
