Hino L7 vs L8: brakes, chassis and body fit

The L7 and L8 occupy adjacent parts of the Canadian L Series, but their published brake, transmission and chassis specifications differ. Start with what the body needs to do.

A larger chassis rating is not a payload guarantee

Subtracting an advertised empty chassis weight from a gross rating omits the body, installation equipment and often the operational load. Ask for completed axle weights and an installation review. The rear axle may reach its limit first if a liftgate or concentrated load sits far behind it.

Compare the systems you will maintain

Inspect the actual transmission, brakes, rear suspension and tire specification. Have the service provider price the work that is due on each truck and confirm access to the relevant equipment. If both configurations meet the application, condition and body suitability may have more purchase value than moving up a model name.
