Acterra SportChassis CE programme
Contemporary evidence documents an Acterra-based SportChassis CE and a real MY2001 vehicle. Early CE examples can retain Acterra VIN architecture rather than a dedicated B1/B2 code.
STERLING FAMILY REFERENCE
Sterling 6500 SportChassis is a factory-recognized Acterra-based special derivative completed within the Freightliner Specialty Vehicles/SportChassis programme. It is neither a separate clean-sheet chassis nor merely an aftermarket nickname.

YEARS & TECHNICAL ERAS
Corporate production dates, model years and individual factory-code availability are not interchangeable.
Contemporary evidence documents an Acterra-based SportChassis CE and a real MY2001 vehicle. Early CE examples can retain Acterra VIN architecture rather than a dedicated B1/B2 code.
Contemporary reports place the four-door Acterra Crew Cab in SportChassis service. It is visually distinct from the extended-fiberglass-cab CE but remains part of one family reference.
A real MY2005 6500 Sportchassis with a B1 VIN provides the latest independently verified dedicated Sterling example in the current corpus. It does not prove MY2005 was the final year.
The SportChassis programme visibly continues on Freightliner M2 architecture. Later M2 years belong to Freightliner, not Sterling, even though the specialty programme survived.

The base is Sterling Acterra architecture; B1/B2 are factory-recognized Sterling 6500 Sportchassis identities; Freightliner Specialty Vehicles/SportChassis performed final specialty cab, interior, towing, ride and completion work. These layers are stored separately.
The launch CE used a 67-inch extended fiberglass cab, approximately 195-inch wheelbase, about 40,000-lb GCWR and towing claims up to about 28,000 lb depending on hitch configuration. The source also describes roughly 60 inches from the rear of the extension to the rear-axle centerline, twin 75-gallon tanks, 22.5-inch aluminum wheels and specialty ride/towing hardware.
The early CE baseline uses a Caterpillar 3126/CFE at approximately 300 hp, with contemporarily documented Mercedes-Benz and Cummins options. Eaton six-speed equipment was the baseline and Allison automatics, including MD3060, were optional. The MY2005 B1 VIN supports an MBE900 7.2-litre hydraulic-brake configuration; these records are not merged into one all-years list.
Later NICB manuals preserve B1 and B2 model codes, but table persistence does not prove that Sterling built 6500 Sportchassis trucks in every listed year. MY2005 remains the latest verified dedicated Sterling B1 example and the exact final Sterling model year remains unresolved.
The later Acterra Crew Cab SportChassis is a major configuration, not a new canonical. Freightliner M2 SportChassis is the successor programme and must not be reassigned to Sterling.
OWNER / BUYER CHECK
Sourced BBC or wheelbase figures may be useful, but they do not complete an A–H reference. No missing width, height, overhang, frame or fifth-wheel geometry is inferred from artwork or an adjacent Sterling family.
