Kenworth T680 Generations & Model History

Kenworth introduced the T680 cab architecture in 2012 and launched the manufacturer-named T680 Next Generation in 2021. Buyers should still verify model year, build record, powertrain and installed equipment on the individual truck.

2012–2020 production context

Original T680 production

Earlier T680 trucks established the aerodynamic cab platform. Model-year updates, sleeper sizes, powertrains, controls and safety equipment vary throughout this long production era.

How to identify

  • Earlier hood, bumper and fairing treatment
  • Analogue/earlier-generation instrumentation depending on year
  • Build label and model-year records remain decisive

Verify on the truck

  • Exact engine and emissions generation
  • Transmission model and rear axle ratio
  • Cab/sleeper configuration and safety equipment

T680 Next Generation

Kenworth uses the Next Generation name for the major 2021 redesign, including new aerodynamic bodywork and a 15-inch digital display. Options and powertrain availability still depend on the ordered build.

How to identify

  • Next Generation hood, bumper and aero treatment
  • 15-inch digital display
  • Confirm by VIN, build sheet and model year rather than appearance alone

Verify on the truck

  • PACCAR or other installed engine and rating
  • Transmission and software/calibration history
  • Driver-assistance equipment actually installed

Primary manufacturer and government sources support the broad history and verification context. Specifications still need to be confirmed for the individual truck.
