Keep 2200 and 2500 references distinct
The Canadian L Series brochure assigns different transmission models to L6 and L7. The archived 258U sheet also identifies a specific Allison automatic. Check the serial tag and build record instead of treating “Allison six-speed” as a complete specification. Older chassis manuals may list additional combinations that do not apply to current trucks.
PTO capability is not a complete installation approval
Identify the installed PTO, control arrangement, cooling and intended equipment. Have the installer confirm the exact transmission application and operating limits from current manufacturer documentation. Do not assume a component is suitable solely because another truck in the same model family used it.
What a buyer should request
Collect fluid and filter service records, fault history and evidence of repairs or replacements. During a qualified road test, evaluate engagement and shifting under appropriate conditions and investigate warning indications. Transmission maintenance requirements should come from the exact unit and vocation, not a generic interval copied from a different fleet.
